ATMI-CMS Technology Lecture

Inasmuch as the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI) and The College Music Society (CMS) enjoy annual collaboration through joint national conferences in the fall of each year, ATMI and CMS, as an amendment to their existing conference agreement, reaffirm and maintain the following procedures for a mutually beneficial annual ATMI-CMS Technology Lecture.

Mission Statement for the ATMI-CMS Technology Lecture

In 1994, the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI) and The College Music Society (CMS) established the ATMI-CMS Technology Lecture. The purpose of this lecture is to present to the ATMI-CMS national conferences the thinking of a distinguished member of (a) the music and education profession or (b) a relevant and related field. The lecturer is invited to speak on a subject wide in scope, to reflect generally upon the technological concerns of music and higher education, and to consider the impact of technology on music, higher education, and American culture.

Procedures

The annual ATMI-CMS Technology Lecture is determined as follows:

(1) A short list of possible lecturers for the next conference year will be developed by ATMI at its fall meeting, usually held in conjunction with its National Conference. The President of ATMI will share this list with the President and Executive Director of CMS.

(2) The President of CMS will immediately review the list with the Board of Directors of CMS at its fall meeting. The President of CMS will report to the President of ATMI concerning any comments on or enhancements to the proposed list that the CMS Board of Directors may have.

(3) The ATMI President will oversee securing a speaker from the list. If last-minute developments necessitate, someone not on the list may be considered. The ATMI President will keep the CMS President and the CMS Conference Director informed as the selection is finalized. The speaker selection will be finalized no later than March 1 of each year so that conference plans and publicity can be finalized.

(4) Under normal circumstances, after a lecturer is presented, the lecturer will not be asked to speak again for a period of five years as the ATMI-CMS lecturer.

(5) Questions concerning arrangements for travel and speaking fees will be directed to the Executive Director of CMS. The CMS Executive Office will finalize the contractual arrangements with the selected technology speaker and will develop publicity for the fall national conferences.
